The Sea Scout uniform is a short sleeve navy blue cotton shirt with a fern leaf embroidered on the pocket and World Scouts symbol above. The shirt is available from Scouts Direct for around $42 and is worn with black pants/shorts/skirt.
Uniforms are worn to meetings, when in public, and to camps unless otherwise specified.
Our Group scarf is light blue with one red stripe and is presented to each youth member during their Investiture. This scarf is an immediate identifier of our Group, and the woggle (holds the scarf together) varies according to Section.
Badges on the shirt identify the Section (eg Cubs), our Group (Western Bays) and our Zone (Moana Rua). Achievement badges are also worn, and the positioning of all badges is important (see template below).
Our Group charges an annual fee of $400, often paid by the term ($100). This covers Scouting New Zealand’s national fee, hall utilities, maintenance and insurance, materials and badges earned. A one-off joining fee covers the Section’s initial badges, book and scarf (from $30 to $50 depending on Section). When a youth member progresses into an older Section, a smaller transition fee covers the new items needed.
We are a non-profit organisation and work hard to keep costs low. Camps and a number of other organized activities are at an additional cost but are not compulsory to attend. Sailing in the local area is free.
Below is a guide on where to sew on your badges.
